La CEMU y Boys Town presentan el Modelo Ciudad de los Muchachos en el congreso internacional ACORES
La CEMU ha participado recientemente en la II Conferencia Internacional sobre Acogimiento Residencial ACORES 24, celebrada los días 3 y 4 de octubre en Oviedo. Allí nuestra entidad ha presentado, junto a la organización amiga Boys Town, de Estados Unidos, el Modelo de Ciudad de los Muchachos de intervención y acogimiento residencial.
El Congreso, bajo el título ‘Niños y jóvenes con especial vulnerabilidad en protección infantil. Revisión internacional de programas terapéuticos innovadores’, ha contado con decenas de representantes nacionales e internacionales de organizaciones e instituciones que gestionan recursos residenciales para niños, niñas y adolescentes.
En ese contexto, la CiudadEscuela Muchachos ha estado representada por Jaime Gómez, secretario del Patronato de la Fundación CEMU. Junto a él han estado Scott Hartman y Patrick Tyler como representantes de Boys Town, la primera Ciudad de los Muchachos del mundo, fundada en 1917 por el Padre Flanagan en Nebraska, Estados Unidos.
Ambos, como miembros de la Alianza de Ciudades de los Muchachos del Mundo, han puesto en valor la metodología de intervención tanto de la CEMU, con más de 50 años de historia, como de Boys Town, con un desarrollo a lo largo de más de un siglo. Un modelo reforzado en artículos científicos e investigadores de todo el mundo. Ejemplo de ello es uno de los documentos sobre los que versó la ponencia principal del Congreso, ‘A Review of the Teaching Family Model/Boys Town Family Home Program’, publicado en 2022 en el libro ‘Revitalizing Residential Care for Children and Youth’.
Tanto Hartman, director de Formación, Programas Educativos y Boys Town Press, como Tyler, jefe del departamento de Investigación Intervención Residencial, han aprovechado los días previos a la celebración de ACORES 24 para visitar la CEMU y estrechar lazos de colaboración y amistad con todos los ciudadanos y ciudadanas de la CiudadEscuela.
Por su parte la CEMU ha representado también a POI Madrid, la Plataforma de Organizaciones de Infancia de la Comunidad de Madrid, de cuya Junta Directiva forma parte el propio Jaime Gómez y que ha estado acompañado por Miriam Poole, directora general de Nuevo Futuro y también miembro de la Directiva de la Plataforma.

CEMU and Boys Town introduced the “Boys Town Model” at the ACORES International Conference during a Poster Session in which they presented the results of last year´s virtual Congress “Boys Towns of the World: 100 Years of Stories of Life”.
CEMU has participated in the II International Conference on Residential Care ACORES 24, held on October 3 and 4 in Oviedo. Our organization and friends from Boys Town of the United States summarized the opinions of the boys and girls voiced in the first virtual International Assembly last December.
The Congress in Oviedo, under the title “Children and Young People with Special Vulnerability in Child Protection. An International Review of Innovative Therapeutic Programs,” was attended by dozens of national and international representatives of organizations and institutions that manage residential resources for children and teenagers.
In this context, CiudadEscuela Muchachos has been represented by Jaime Gómez, secretary of the Board of Directors of CEMU Foundation. He was joined by Scott Hartman and Patrick Tyler as representatives of Boys Town, the first boys town in the world, founded in 1917 by Father Flanagan in Nebraska, USA.
Both organizations, as members of the Alliance of Boys Towns of the World, have highlighted the intervention methodology of both CEMU, with more than 50 years of history, and Boys Town with a track record of more than a century. This model is reinforced by scientific articles and research collected during the past 40 years. An example of this is one of the papers from a book on which the main presentation of the Congress was based in the book ‘Revitalizing Residential Care for Children and Youth published in 2022. The article is entitled ”A Review of the Teaching-Fily Model/Boys Town Family Home Program”.
Both Hartman, director of Training, Educational Programs, and Boys Town Press, and Tyler, head of the Residential Intervention Research Department, took advantage of the days before the celebration of ACORES 24 to visit CEMU and strengthen ties of collaboration and friendship with all the citizens of our little community.
On the other hand, CEMU has also represented POI Madrid, the Network of Childhood Organizations of the Community of Madrid, of whose Board of Directors Jaime Gómez himself is a member and who has been accompanied by Miriam Poole, general director of Nuevo Futuro and also a member of the Board of Directors of this Network.
